In December 2012, Mary joined the FBR staff to coordinate volunteers as a volunteer herself. Mary meets with members, new and old, to discuss how they can use their gifts and abilities to serve the members and guests of First Baptist Raytown. She then connects members with ministry staff and lay leaders, placing them in the perfect position of ministry for their gifts and abilities. Mary volunteered for this role because she sees that everyone has a place to serve in the church, and she wants to help connect those members with ministries that can benefit from their service.
Mary is a verbose, type A personality, and you can tell that a mile away, which is what people love about her and also what makes her so effective in her place of ministry. Mary loves what she is doing to serve the church, but she also enjoys the times she can get away and travel and be with friends and family, including her four great-grandchildren. One day she hopes to spend some of that spare time with zip lining and parasailing.
She has different favorite verses at different times, but the one she goes to everyday is one that proclaims the greatness of God. 1 Chronicles 29:10-13 says, "Praise be to you, O Lord, God of our Father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom: You are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from You. You are the ruler of all things. In Your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now our God we give You thanks and praise Your glorious name."
